With the rapid advancement of technology, humanity has entered the 5G era—a period brimming with both opportunities and challenges. Accelerating the integrated development of “5G + Industrial Internet” has become a crucial strategic direction for the development of China’s manufacturing sector. The integration of “5G + Industrial Internet” plays an important role in driving the digital, networked, and intelligent transformation and upgrading of industries. By combining 5G technology with the Industrial Internet, we can achieve high-speed, low-latency, and highly reliable communication among industrial devices, thereby enabling the intelligent, automated, and optimized upgrading of industrial application scenarios. At the same time, this integration also opens up vast space and opportunities for the development of service-oriented manufacturing.

As a traditional equipment manufacturer, Guiyang Xianfeng’s digital transformation is still at an early stage. Throughout the entire production and business process, workflow data and document circulation are entirely handled manually and on paper, making it difficult to ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of production information transmission, thereby resulting in relatively lower operational efficiency compared to industry peers. Although the company began planning for informatization as early as 2002 and has so far made some investments in this area, it has yet to establish dedicated departments or positions within the organization to centrally plan and manage its IT initiatives. Instead, the company relies primarily on external vendors for both IT development and the maintenance of existing systems. The company has already implemented relevant management systems for finance and office collaboration and completed the construction of a PDM system; however, data integration and interoperability have not yet been achieved. In terms of network infrastructure, Guiyang Xianfeng’s current setup is at a basic level. While it can meet daily office needs, the company lacks both a local area network (LAN) and an internal intranet, and thus continues to be deficient in security control capabilities.

Under multiple difficulties and pressures, and following tireless efforts by various parties, Guiyang Xianfeng has finally decided to implement 5G-based information technology construction within its factory premises. This 5G information infrastructure construction within the plant area includes the installation of 5G base stations, deployment of UPFs, and the implementation of firewalls, as well as backbone network backup and optimization. To this end, the monitoring system platform has also been optimized, and the network systems for both new and existing monitoring equipment have been redeployed. This is not only a significant breakthrough for Guiyang Xianfeng in its informationization efforts, but also an important step in promoting the digital transformation of the industrial sector.

The information-based construction of intelligent manufacturing can enhance the supply-chain efficiency of Guiyang Xianfeng, strengthen collaboration between upstream and downstream enterprises, and address the issue of asymmetric and non-shared information between these partners, which has previously hindered their ability to respond swiftly to market demands. This not only elevates Guiyang Xianfeng’s level of intelligent manufacturing but also benefits upstream and downstream enterprises. Moreover, it sets a benchmark for the machine-tool industry in Guiyang City, aligning with the overall development requirements of the industry. Furthermore, digitalization will consolidate the achievements of intelligent manufacturing within the machine-tool sector, accumulating valuable experience across various aspects—including industrial development direction, development mechanisms, operational models, industrial linkages, advanced technologies, and talent cultivation—through the digital factory project. This will play a positive role in demonstrating and guiding the rapid development of the entire industry.

The application of “5G + Industrial Internet” will effectively address the shortcomings in automation and informationization at Guiyang Xianfeng, enabling the creation of a digital cloud factory. This will provide the company with comprehensive enterprise information applications covering sales, production, procurement, warehousing, and operations, thereby enhancing its maturity in intelligent manufacturing. Meanwhile, through the B2B collaboration module, it will meet the collaborative needs of SMEs with suppliers and customers in areas such as orders, products, materials, inventory, production, and finance.

Against the backdrop of the urgent need to transform and upgrade traditional manufacturing, Guiyang Xianfeng is keenly in need of establishing an integrated big-data system that encompasses real-time production, warehouse management, and supply chain operations. This system will help the company optimize production scheduling, increase product supply, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce management costs, thereby supporting Guiyang Xianfeng’s transition from a simple manufacturing enterprise toward a mid-to-high-end flexible manufacturing enterprise.
