CNC Roll Grinder for MK84 Series Hot-Rolling Production Lines

The MK84 series CNC roll grinder for hot-rolling production lines, featuring a hydrostatic support frame, is a CNC roll grinder independently designed and manufactured by Xianfeng Machine Tool based on the introduction and assimilation of advanced German manufacturing technologies. It boasts high efficiency, high precision, powerful functionality, a high degree of automation, safe and reliable operation, and the capability for timely remote data transmission. The machine extensively incorporates cutting-edge SIEMENS 840D Si CNC control technology and mechanical drive technology, achieving overall performance that is on par with world-leading standards. It can meet the grinding requirements for work rolls, backup rolls, and pinch rolls—whether with or without roll housings—on hot-rolling production lines in the steel industry. The comprehensive adoption of advanced CNC technology and software has led to a relatively simplified mechanical structure, reducing the number of mechanical transmission stages; this not only enhances reliability and flexibility but also significantly lowers maintenance requirements. The grinder is equipped with the SIEMENS SINUMERIK 840D Si distributed CNC system, along with self-developed, specialized automated control software for roll grinders and a user-friendly, graphical Chinese-language operating interface. It also features an original dynamic simulation function for the roll-grinding and measurement processes. Each CNC axis is driven by a fully digital, AC servo motor from SIEMENS, while the grinding wheel and headstock are powered by high-performance, original, imported AC spindle motors from SIEMENS. Thanks to the high precision, maintenance-free operation, and strong environmental adaptability of these AC servo and spindle motors, the grinder can operate reliably over long periods even under harsh on-site conditions. The roll-measurement system utilizes a new linear optical grating produced by HEIDENHAIN in Germany, ensuring both the accuracy of roll measurements and the positional control accuracy of the CNC system.

Description of the Grinding Process for Bearing Housings

Grinding of the bearing housings for the work rolls of mills F1–F7 and R2: For the work rolls of these mills, the bearing housings are supported by a dedicated centering frame, with the headstock-end housing directly lifted and secured by hydraulic supports, while the tailstock-end housing is rotated 90° via an arc-gear mechanism and then supported at its bottom by hydraulic thrust blocks. The live centers at both the head and tail stocks project outward to precisely locate and hold the roll in the axial direction. The tailstock end is designed with a two-tier structure that allows adjustment of the roll’s generatrix parallelism. Once these installation steps are completed, the automatic grinding procedure can be initiated. Grinding of the bearing housings for the backup rolls: This function involves the use of specialized tooling, independent oil supply and return systems, and other special components to enable direct grinding of backup rolls F1–F7, backup roll R2, and work roll R1, all of which are supported directly by their bearing housings. The roll installation axis is aligned using the U1 axis and is manually tightened with a hydraulic cylinder.
Advantages: The in-box/box-mounted grinding function can minimize damage to the support bearings caused by frequent disassembly and reassembly of the roll bearing housings, reduce labor intensity and maintenance costs, and improve production efficiency.
